Community Engagement in the Faculty of Social Sciences
Who are we ?
The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Sheffield works with a range of community organisations, businesses, schools and public
sector organisations across the city and in the wider region. This website showcases some of these activities and you can learn more
about our projects here.
We are a large and diverse grouping of University departments with a reputation for outstanding research and teaching, and strong links with
professionals in the various subject disciplines. Our interests focus on issues related to society, people, and places, and the interactions between
each of these. In all of our engagements with the wider community we seek to have a beneficial impact on the social environments in which Sheffield
people live and work.
What are we doing ?
The Faculty is committed to working with the local community in a wide variety of ways. These include:
* Supporting local businesses through collaboratively solving problems
* Giving school pupils an experience of the legal system in action
* Working with a range of community groups on projects about improving the lived environment, through architectural
changes, alterations in the landscape , and development of wider plans for the local area
What can you do to take part?
If you are a member of the public and have an idea that you think would be suitable for us to get involved in, then
please contact us. If your
idea is suitable, we will try to pair you up, or refer you to somewhere else in the University that may be able to help.
If you are part of the University and would like to get involved in an exisiting project, or have an example you want to share, or an idea for a new
project, then please contact us.
We want to extend this website, but can only do so with your contributions. We welcome your comments and feedback.
Please take the time to have a look at some of our projects. We hope that you will find the examples interesting and inspiring.
